Floral Influences & Inspiration

Happy May Day!

We love finding you fun ways to look at jewelry and its impact on our day-to-day lives!

This year we’ve decided to look at flowers - what flowers are associated with each month and their influences on jewelry.

We hope you have as much fun with this as our previous newsletters and learn some interesting facts along the way!

Thank you for taking this journey with me.

Lily of the Valley & Hawthorn

Lucky May has two beautiful birth flowers, Lily of the Valley & Hawthorn.

Lily of the Valley symbolizes sweetness, humility and the return of happiness.

This is a shade loving perennial that produces white bell-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring. It has a sweet fragrance, glossy green leaves and grows in clumps.  The flower is native to Europe and can also be found in parts of North America and Asia.

Hawthorn symbolizes hope and supreme happiness reflecting the joy and optimism that comes with May.

Hawthorn is a small tree that produces fragrant white or pink flowers in the spring and red berries in the fall. Frequently hawthorn is used as a border plant in landscaping. It can be found in Europe, Asia and North America.

Fun Facts

The hawthorn is believed to have magical properties in some cultures. They use it for spells and rituals for protection and love. In Ireland, isolated hawthorn trees, or ‘lone bushes’, are said to be inhabited by fairies! Such trees could not be cut or damaged in any way without incurring the often fatal wrath of their supernatural guardians.
