August- Floral Influences & Inspiration

Floral Influences & Inspiration

Hello August! I hope you are enjoying the summer with family and friends.

We love finding you fun ways to look at jewelry and its impact on our day-to-day lives! This year we’ve decided to look at flowers and their association with each month and their influences on jewelry.

As with many of our months, August also has two flowers Gladiolus & Poppy.

Many years ago, when I lived in Bologna, Italy, I came across an enormous field of red poppies – breathtakingly impressive and beautiful. To this day, that visual of a red poppy field returns vividly to my memory. Putting this newsletter together brought back that wonderful memory.

We hope you have as much fun with this as our previous newsletters and learn some interesting facts along the way!

Thank you for taking this journey with me.

Gladiolus & Poppy

Gladiolus symbolizes strength, integrity and infatuation.

Gladiolus is the Latin word for sword. Sometimes referred to as the “sword lily,” the gladiolus originates from South Africa, Europe and Asia. These flowers are striking in that they bloom from the bottom of the spike to the top.

Add to that the color variety…purple, pink, red, yellow, orange, white and some bi-colored…and they are beautiful to behold

Poppy symbolizes imagination, dreams and eternal sleep.

Native to Europe and Asia, they have also been introduced to North America and Australia. You can recognize poppies by their cup-shaped petals and prominent black centers.

Although most popular for its recognized vibrant red color, it also comes in pink, orange, yellow and white.
