Daisies & Sweet Pea

April has two birth flowers, Daisy and Sweet Pea.

Daisies come in white and pink…blooming in early spring to late autumn. Sweet Pea are known for their sweet fragrance. They come in 200 different varieties, each unique, in color and fragrance.

Daisies symbolize blissful pleasure, innocence, new beginnings, purity and true love.

“He loves me …He loves me not…” as each petal is plucked off.

Daisies have existed since at least 2,200 BC when ancient Egyptians grew them in their gardens to use as herbal medicine.

Sweet Pea symbolize Blissful pleasure, gratitude and farewell, expressing appreciation and affection for loved ones. Sweet peas represent lasting friendship.

Some smell like honey, others have a musky aroma. Apart from being fragrant, they come in a wide array of colors…pink, purple, blue and white; and are often used as cut flowers.

Did You Know

Daisy

Daisy
is two flowers in one. The larger outer petals make up one flower. The cluster of tiny petals that form the center “eye” make up another. Daisies are members of the biggest plant family in the world – vascular plants, making up 10% of all flowers on earth, they grow on every continent except Antartica.

Sweet Peas

Sweet Peas were first discovered in Sicily in the 17th century. In the 1800’s they became wildly popular in England, so much so, that they were the subject of a famous exhibition in London in 1901. In Greek mythology, they were believed to be a symbol of eternal life.

Fun Facts

The name Daisy comes from the Old English “daes eage” or “day’s eye.” They close their petals at night and then open them at the first bit of sunlight, revealing the bright yellow center.

Fun Facts

Parts of the Sweet Pea are edible, the flowers or young shoots can be added to salads, or dried, they can be used in teas or desserts. However, the sweet pea seeds are toxic and should not be consumed.

Butterflies love Daisies and Sweet Pea. We have some stunning butterflies in our Fabio Angri collection on our website.
