September - Floral Influences & Inspiration

Floral Influences & Inspiration

Welcome September! Fall will be upon us soon enough. For now let us enjoy the long evenings and sunny days.

We love finding you fun ways to look at jewelry and its impact on our day-to-day lives! This year we’ve decided to look at flowers and their association with each month and their influences on jewelry.

As with many of our months, September also has two flowers Aster and Morning Glory.

We hope you have as much fun with this as our previous newsletters and learn some interesting facts along the way!

Thank you for taking this journey with me.

Aster & Morning Glory

Aster symbolizes love, wisdom, faith and innocence. A traditional 20th wedding anniversary gift.

A member of the daisy family ranging in color from white and yellow to pink, purple, red and blue.

In Greek, aster means “star” which speaks to its star-like appearance. It has been used as a subject in great works of art, including some by Monet and van Gogh. During the Aster Revolution in Hungary following World War I, supporters of the revolution wore asters in their hats and demonstrated in the streets of Budapest.

In World War II, they were placed on the tombs of French soldiers.

Morning Glory symbolizes both unrequited love and undying love, affection, and the fleeting beauty of life.

These plants are fast growing vines with a unique daily schedule – the flowers open in the morning and close up by the afternoon! The flowers come mostly in blue and purple and are trumpet-shaped with five large petals around the flower head, making them very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.

Morning glory flowers can be grown on a trellis, reaching up to 10 feet in height in one season, or the flowers can be trained to spread as ground cover.
