Life in Colour - May

“It’s May, it’s May, the lovely month of May…” Camelot anyone?

This month we continue our life in color journey. What colors come to mind when you think of May? For me, May is Yellow! Longer sunnier days, outdoor picnics, and flowers blooming.

Sunflowers are a favorite of mine and although they don't bloom in May we plant them now so they can share their glory in the summer. This month my own yard will abound in willowy yellow daffodils, graceful yellow irises and glorious blooms of large yellow peonies.

Thank you for taking this journey with me, I hope you are enjoying it. Happy May

Gina

Yellow

In 1888, in a letter from Vincent Van Gogh to his brother Theo, “The sun dazzles me and goes to my head, a sun, a light that I can only call yellow, sulphur-yellow, lemon yellow, golden yellow. How lovely yellow is!”

In the gemstone world, there are yellow diamonds, yellow sapphires and yellow citrines. Here are some beautiful pieces from the Fabio Angri collection on my website using these.

Interesting Facts

In most cultures, yellow represents happiness, warmth and sunshine.

The yellow sun was one of humanity’s most important symbols and revered as God in many cultures.

In ancient Egyptian culture, where gods were associated with the sun, yellow was the highest and noblest of colors. In ancient Egypt, the bodies of the gods were painted in vivid yellow to resemble gold.

From ancient times, yellow pigments from clay soils rich in ochre were used to decorate human bodies and cave walls.
