Let’s Spring into April!

Life in Color

April evokes images of Spring for me. Spring in bloom, fresh-cut flowers and new life in the air! Pastel and cheerful colors.

Continue this journey of life in colour with me this month as we look at sapphires. Did you know that sapphires come in an array of colors? Pale colored sapphires of various colors: light blue, yellow, orange and pink have become known as “pastel sapphires” in the trade.

Thank you for taking this journey with me, I hope you are enjoying it. Happy Spring

Gina

Padparadscha

This is a very rare variety of pastel sapphire with a delicate pinkish-orange color that comes about as a result of tiny amounts of chromium, iron and vanadium in the gemstone. Most originates out of Sri Lanka. They are often oval and cushion cut and set in rose gold to enhance the warmth of the rosy tones to enhance the pink and orange of the padparadscha. It is one of the world’s most expensive gems with prices similar to fine rubies and emeralds. The most valuable padparadscha shows a delicate mix of pink and orange.

Did you Know…

Padparadscha (pad-pah-raj-ah) comes from the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom. Sinhalese is the language of the people of Sri Lanka.
